This period (1942) was war time. Young men (boys) were being drafted. Several were called from Ebenezer. Not all returned. Ministers can't be drafted. They must volunteer. Ed felt he couldn't use that excuse so in 1943 joined the Navy (stayed 31 years). Our year at Ebenezer was a happy one. Since Ed was in his last year of Seminary at Temple (going to Philadelphia every day) I had to work so that we could eat. Am sure the salary now is larger. The church members were so good to us. Mr. Hollingsworth plowed the lot for a garden. "Dot" began to play the organ, which she did for over 50 years, I think. Mr. Little let Ed ride in the "Farmers' Fox Hunt Club" or, whatever they called it. The Greenplates at the foot of the hill were such good neighbors. It's impossible to name everybody. After we left Ebenezer, Ed and I often laughed about our catching 10-20 mice a night. When the weather turned cold, they wanted to come in. There was another inci
