Dear Lay Reader:

Thank you for your willingness to assist with the worship of our Lord!

Enclosed is the Lay Reader schedule for January through April of 2004. If the date or time is not suitable, please try to exchange with someone else on the list. Then notify the church office (302-731-9495) by Tuesday of that week. If you are not successful, please call Steve Poorman, the new Lay Leader, at 302-235-2662. The week before your scheduled time, Judy Sprout will send you a copy of the Scriptures to read.

The basic tasks of the Lay Reader are:

· Pray an offertory prayer

· Receive the offering plates from the ushers

· Ask the congregation to Pass the Peace

· Lead the congregation in the Prayer of Illumination

· Read the scriptures. The congregation reads the gospel with you.

· Serve communion with the pastor on communion Sundays

· Special Sundays or guest speakers may require additional duties

Meet with the pastor 10 minutes before the service for any last minute instructions and a prayer. NOTE: to be heard well, please adjust the microphone so you are speaking into it – about 3-4 inches away.
